b0st0n @ 3:32pm: Bed for sale!
Hi there, fellow Bostonites. I am finishing up grad school at BU this year and moving away from good ol' Allston into an apartment downtown with my boyfriend. I'm looking to sell my bed, and I've posted a few times on Craigstlist and keep getting emails from scammers. I figured I should give lj a try. :-) Here's the details: * Full-size frame/mattress * Sleek dark wood finish * Tall headboard * Drawers that come out underneath the bed (for clothing storage) * Less than a year old; originally bought at Boston Bed Company on Commonwealth Ave. (the model is actually still in the window) I am asking for $375 but I am willing to negotiate. ( click here for a few pictures... ) If you are interested, please contact me asap at dekole@gmail.com. Thanks!

$10 to remove dead mouse from my house...IDK know where to post this. (East Boston) Reply to: gigs-zyzje-1263146940@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] Date: 2009-07-10, 2:06PM EDT I am completely hysterical. I opened my cupboard and there is a dead mouse. I have no idea where else to post this, but I'm practically in tears. I'm hoping there's someone really close in East Boston who needs $10 and has a super strong stomache. It's all I can offer and I can't do it myself. All you'd need to do is pick it up (trap and all) in a plastic bag and put it in the trash and tie that bag up. I can do the rest. Ack ack ack...please get this dead mouse out of my house! I need this done by 3:30. Location: East Boston it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests Compensation: $10 one time. PostingID: 1263146940

b0st0n @ 7:40pm: Hot Sauce
Anybody know of any good supplies of hot sauce in the Boston area? I know that Christina's Spice Store in Inman has a decent selection, but I was hoping for a little more selection. I was thinking maybe Quincy Market may have a kiosk or something, but I don't fancy biking all the way there for overpriced crap (and dealing with all the tourists) if that's all they have. I've tried Shaw's but the best they have is Cholula, and like half an aisle of Frank's Red Hot. (ugh) Google also turned up Polcari's Coffee in the North End, but their website doesn't say that they sell hot sauce, and Yelp only had a brief mention. Anybody tried that place? Thanks!

b0st0n @ 4:29pm: Boston Harbor Cruises
My grandmother (age 81) really wants to go on a local cruise for an evening this summer. I looked online and found the sunset cruises and the aquarium's whale watch sunset cruises to be the most promising. Anyone ever been on one? I haven't been on a whale watch in years and because I went with my school I don't really remember any of the planning aspect of it. If we go, I'd probably buy the tickets online in advance. I'm just looking for any general input on those two events or suggestions for other boat trips. The biggest issue with my grandmother is she has difficult walking long distances or standing for a long period of time, so I want something relaxed enough that she can mostly sit and enjoy the view. Also, we'd probably take the quincy or hull ferry into long wharf to board and depart from whatever we do, so the event has to be flexible enough to work with those boat schedules (I prefer something in the evening). www.harborexpress.com is the website I've been checking out. Thanks everyone!

b0st0n @ 4:06pm: Cash Money
Anyone looking to make some money this Sunday? We need two softball scorekeepers for a series of games this Sunday. Games run from 8:30am to 4pm and the fields are a short walk from the Red Line in Cambridge and Boston. You must be able to keep baseball statistics. You can make about $90 for sitting out in the sun and watching a few ballgames. If you interested, email me at clefe at hotmail dot comm. With 10 percent unemployment, there has got to be some takers, right?

b0st0n @ 1:23pm: Primary Care
Hi, I want a new primary care doctor. Mine is cool & all, but she's far away.
Any recommendations? I need someone who takes BCBS, and preferably has evening/weekend hours.
Downtown Boston, or Revere/Everett/Malden area is preferred.
bonus points if the person trusts that I know my own body better than he/she ever could, and won't put up too much of a fight when I say, "no, really, I need XYZ, etc."
Thanks, Boston.

b0st0n @ 1:07pm: Hello Boston
Hey folks, My girlfriend and I are visiting Boston in a few weeks (from Seattle) and I am trying to come up with a list of things/places we should do/see in the couple days that we'll be there. For starters, we're gay, vegan, artsy fartsy girls and we may end up moving to Boston in the future, so: What vegan restaurants (if any) should we check out? What (gay friendly) neighborhoods should we wander through? What other areas of town or sites should we see along the way? And.. can anyone recommend a decent, cheap hostel/motel? We're not super into cheesy landmarks. I'd rather scout out the places that I would like to live/spend time if we do decide to move there. Thanks everyone!

b0st0n @ 10:10am: Good photo shoot locations around Boston?
I'm doing a promo shoot for a band on Saturday morning and have some standard places in mind to shoot (Park Street, on the T, Copley area, Back Bay) but I'd love to have more places to shoot. Does anyone have any suggestions? They want an urban feel which is easy in Boston, but I want it more unique than just 'urban'. Thanks!

b0st0n @ 9:28am: hip/modern/stylish curtains
Seems like 90% of the curtains out there to buy are super duper old-lady style so it was nice to be able to go to Urban Outfitters and find something modern/stylish and relatively affordable. But I just went to the Harvard Sq location and the Faneuil Hall location this weekend and neither carry any curtains right now. The staff I asked seemed to think they're only selling them online now. Any other suggestions for stores that sell modern/stylish curtains that don't cost a fortune? (I checked Anthropologie on Boylston and no curtains there either. Actually, they might have had a couple of styles but that's it. And, yeah, I know I can shop online at UO and Anthro but it would be awesome to shop for curtains in person.) Thanks!

b0st0n @ 9:17pm: August 2br Sublet in Central Square. $1800 for whole place, $900 for individual subletters.
Hello! This is my 2nd and I promise my last time posting this here... thought I'd give it another shot now that August is getting closer. This sublet is available for August 1st-31st. It's a 7 minute walk from MIT, 4 minute walk from the Central Square T/Bus stop. Includes: - 2 bedrooms (we made the larger one into our living room)
- 1 study (could be used as a bedroom, but has no windows so legally has to be considered a study)
- 1 bathroom
- 1 kitchen
- 1 dining room
- Laundry in unit
- Free utilities: heat/hot water/electricity/internet
Rooms can be rented individually (large room or smaller bedroom + study, $900 each). We will have all our stuff moved out of the apartment by 5pm on August 1st. You can see more pictures at my Flickr account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dianafreedman/sets/72157620502461207/. If interested, email me at diana.freedman AT gmail DOT com. Thanks!!

b0st0n @ 4:53pm: Winter CSAs in Boston
Does anyone have a winter Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm they can recommend? I've been enjoying my spring/harvest season share so much that I just don't want to give up the fresh with the hard weather hits -even if it means I'm eating turnips and winter squash into April. Thoughts? Comments? And, of course, thanks in advance...

b0st0n @ 3:02pm: Jazz Clubs
The quick gist for tl;dr fans: I'm looking for a decent T Accessible Jazz Bar that's not too crowded and not Wally's. The closer to Central Square the better Hey, folks. I've got a friend who's a bit down and needs some cheering up. He's been wanting to go to a Jazz Club for ages, but we're not sure where to look. I don't trust Yelp and the memories yielded nothing. We've tried Wally's over on Mass Ave, but the place is consistently packed and I personally don't do too well in really tight crowds in small places. I'd ideally like some place relatively quiet and not too uber-trendy as I'm on a budget.

b0st0n @ 10:27am: The Metro?!
So the Boston Metro has not been in boxes, and their website has not been updated since last week. I am not seeing anything online or in the news about it, but this seems pretty significant to me!! The Metro is (was?) a pretty integral part of many peoples' commute.. and just something really established.. Does anyone know anything about this? Is it just Boston or a larger Metro International thing?

b0st0n @ 11:37pm: Save South Street (MORE INFO)
Attending today’s hearing was a unique and honestly surprising experience. As Sol (the owner of South Street Diner) said to us afterward, “I never expected to hear people talk about me like that until I was dead." At 10 am this morning, the Boston Licensing Board held the hearing for South Street Diner regarding a letter of complaint by a neighbor who cited the noise and general night life style of the place as reason for the diner’s hours to be changed. As the hearing began, the room was packed, with around 20-30 people forced to stand throughout the meeting. more at - http://www.savesouthstreetdiner.com/THE FINAL DECISION WILL BE MADE ON THURSDAY! Be sure to write to the licensing board prior to Thursday and express your support for South Street: http://www.cityofboston.gov/contact/?id=105

b0st0n @ 8:54pm: Some Boston Museums for Free
[This is cross-posted from my journal since I figured some of you might be interested.] I love museums and I like it even more if I can visit for free. I've compiled a list of ways to get in to a bunch of museums around Boston for free so that you can also indulge without needing to pay admission. The first two on this list are available nationwide and you can look for museums near you at those websites. The rest are mostly around Boston and are behind an LJ-cut. If you know of other ways and places to get in free, let me know and I'll add it to the list! Bank of America Museums On Us (nationwide)http://museums.bankofamerica.com/Discussion: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&t=1389299Got a Bank of America ATM, credit, or check card? Each card holder can get into a bunch of museums free on the first full weekend of each month. Check website to find participating museums (or zoos and gardens) near you. In the Boston area, this deal gets you into: Target sponsored nights (nationwide)http://sites.target.com/site/en/corporate/page.jsp?contentId=PRD03-002065Here's another deal where a big corporation sponsors a bunch of free or cheap admissions. Check website to find one near you. We went to the MoMA in NYC for their Target Free Thursday night and the line was so long we were tempted to give up. But we joined the line and it moved surprisingly quickly. Boston options are: - Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) Thursdays 5-9pm - Boston Children's Museum Target $1 Fridays 5-9pm Discussion: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&t=1328567( Click to see the rest of the listings for mostly Boston-area museums )

b0st0n @ 5:21pm: One-off Editing Gig - $25
Short notice, but... I'm looking for an experienced writer/editor to look over and edit down my personal statement for grad school either tonight or tomorrow night. My reviewers all say it's "great" as far as tone and content, but it still must be trimmed by about 2 paragraphs, and I've been looking at it so long I can't see where to snip. This is a PS for really important grad school (as opposed to the ones I banged out for my other grad degrees :P), so if you're free and interested, please let me know your "writerly" experience.(<-- Yes, words like "writerly" are why I'm soliciting on LJ) Thanks! P.S. Cookies or beer will also be provided. EDIT: I've lined up enough editors for now, but feel free to leave your info, and if The Big One hits all my editors and I still need someone tomorrow I will contact you! Thanks :)

b0st0n @ 4:37pm: Asian hair looking for a stylist
I have medium-length, crazy thick hair and I'm wondering if there's any salons that really know what to do with Asian hair. I don't want to go to a place in Chinatown because aside from not speaking any Chinese, much less Cantonese, all the styles that I see on more typical Chinese girls are just not what I want and wouldn't work on me. So I'm looking for a place or a stylist who knows what to do with Asian hair. All the salons I've looked at on Yelp either have reviews from people with crazy poofy curly hair or 'normal' hair (they don't mention the type), but nothing I've seen has mentioned Asian hair. Any suggestions?

b0st0n @ 4:17pm: Tall Ships/Sail Boston questions
There is a contact us link on the Sail Boston page, but I'm hoping for unbiased opinions on this: If I'm looking for something to do with someone in the 10-years-old-ish age range on Friday (and it's not poor weather) is it worth trying to go to either the Downtown Crossing Festival or Public Access to the Piers/seeing a few of the boats? Or is the festival kind of boring and the lines too long to be worthwhile to see the ships? Link to Sail Boston Schedule
